The Procuratie Vecchie have overlooked the Square for over seven centuries and extends from the Clock Tower towards the Napoleonic Wing.
They were rebuilt in 1500, after a fire and a searing military defeat, interpreting the desire of the Venetian Republic to reaffirm its continuity, loyalty to tradition and prestige. Originally intended for use as the residence of the Prosecutors of the Serenissima, today they house shops, exhibition spaces and business centres.
